I purchased a tourist Half Fare card (with QR code) but am unable to link it in SBB App.

In the past few years I was able to do that. Is the App changed?

The Half Fare Travelcard for tourists (Swiss Half Fare Card) is available as e-ticket. If you bought the Swiss Half Fare while logged into your account, by logging into your SBB Mobile app with the same credentials, you should see it in the ‘Tickets & Travelcards’ section.

However, if you purchased it as a guest, you can not display it on the app. You can save the travelcard manually in the traveller’s details (as Half Fare Travelcard) so that you can easily purchase your tickets with the 50% reduction. You will then have to show your Swiss Half Fare Card separately during ticket inspections. I suggest you save it in your mobile phone.

Thanks so much for the clarification. A follow up question - can we cancel the HFC purchased online using “guest” and rebuy them after logging in (I do have a customer account)?

As a general rule, the Swiss Half Fare Card can be refunded before the validity date with a cancellation fee of CHF 10.00.

Working as a ticket conductor, I do not see any advantage of having the Swiss Half Fare Card in your app, compared to showing it as PDF from your mobile phone. The app will not automatically recognise the rebate when buying tickets, this has to be done manually in the passenger details. Regardless of how you present the Swiss Half Fare Card, you must present it with your physically available ID or passport.
