PE Lucerne-Interlaken Express: line interruption from 2 October to 26 November 2023 - construction

The Panorama Express (PE) railway line from Lucerne to Interlaken Ost will be closed between the stations of Giswil and Meiringen because of construction work, this from 2 October to 26 November 2023. Between the aforementioned stations, rail replacement buses will be in operation during this period. The timetable has been modified, and it is advisable to verify it again shortly before departing.

An alternative route from Lucerne to Interlaken Ost is via Bern (more expensive, less scenic).

Good afternoon. I tried to book a ticket for 17th October for the Luzern–Interlaken Express but I’m not able to due to the construction. I don’t want to travel via Bern. Do you by chance know how to buy a ticket during this period? Are the express trains definitely running? Thank you.

You are right, there seems to be a technical problem, most likely due to the timetable adjustments. I reported the issue to SBB.

There is no requirement to purchase the tickets in advance, as they can be easily obtained at the station in Lucerne. These trains do not sell out. The stretch from Giswil to Meiringen will be replaced by a bus, Lucerne to Giswil and Meiringen to Interlaken Ost will be operated by the PE trains.

I have been told that the technical issue will be resolved by 13 September 2023 and ticket purchase will again be possible.
