City-Ticket Schaffhausen to Luzern then Engelberg

Dear all

I am planning to take train from Schaffhausen to Luzern in the morning, then to drop off luggages first in hotel.

We will then go back Luzern station travelling to Engelberg to visit Mt Titlis

I try to check the tickets at the SBB app, it shows point-to-point ticket is 26.50 with half fare card, 31.80 with city ticket.

May i know

1. Does city ticket means it covers all three areas?

2. Can i alight at Luzern for awhile (say 1-2 hours) then only re-enter the station heading to Engelberg?

If 1 and 2 are yes - i will proceed with city ticket since it is cheaper.

A standard point-to-point ticket from Schaffhausen to Mt. Titlis, one way, half fare, will cost you CHF 61.00. This will allow you to alight in Lucerne and continue later. Or, you’re buying two separate tickets,

a Schaffhausen to Lucerne Point-to-Point ticket, or a Super Saver Ticket (valid on the chosen connection only) and, in addition,
a Lucerne-Titlis-Lucerne return ticket

depending on where you will spend the night.

A City Ticket is never cheaper than a Point-to-Point Ticket, as it contains a local public transport ticket in either city, not in all. The city has to be chosen when buying the ticket. I do not see any advantage for you when doing so.

Good day Roland. How did you get the price of 61 for one way from Schaffhausen to Mt Titlis?

I used SBB app input from Schauffhausen to Engelberg is 19.8

0 for half fare card.

You selected Engelberg as the destination. This is the train station in the village of Engelberg, at the foot of Mt. Titlis, and not the summit station. To buy a ticket to the summit station, choose “Engelberg, Klein Titlis, Kleintitlis”.

The 19.80 you mention is a Supersaver ticket to Engelberg. You must stick to that itinerary, otherwise your ticket is not valid. If you miss the train because you were late at the station, you have to buy a new ticket. If you want a fully flexible ticket, valid on any train, for any connection, you need a Point-to-Point ticket which is CHF 61, one way, with the Half Fare Card, see my example:

Mt. Titlis is quite a costly mountain trip, one of the most expensive in our country, even for holders of the Swiss Half Fare Card. I therefore strongly suggest not buying tickets in advance but on-site, once the weather forecast is reliable, this isn’t the case for more than 2 days out.

I am surprised your app managed to show the price. Mine could not.

anyway I searched the return ticket price for Engelberg to KT Titlis is CHF48 After half fare card.

I think i will proceed with buying point to point ticket from Schaffhausen to Lucerne. Then Lucerne to Engelberg.

I found it, apparently the price will show up for certain timings.

Anyway, if i purchase the above ticket you showed - it only sends me to Stand station?

I still need to purchase ticket for TITLIS ROTAIR cable car to the summit station. However i dont seem there is such a ticket selling from Stand to submit?

/there is only Engelberg-Titlis?
