Hello, I am trying to book a ticket from Milano Centrale to Lausanne on EC50 on Sunday, 17 September, but I am receiving an error message that “Unfortunately it is not possible to calculate the entire route for all the various products. Please select an available option. The requested seat category is no longer available.”

Is there a specific reason why this is? Will I be able to buy the ticket at a later date?

According to the Trenitalia timetable, there are no EuroCity connections on the weekend of September, 16th and 17th. You can travel by regional trains, as suggested by @pandutv, or change the date of your travel (if possible).

EuroCity connections will be available again from September,18th and can be booked on SBB.ch.

It might be that the Italian part of the journey (Milano - Domodossola) were fully booked. Make sense as every passenger travelling from Italy towards Switzerland on EC trains must have a seat reservation. If you cannot find any train for the date you want, you can consider to book from Domodossola to Lausanne, as Swiss fair system won’t have the problem of overbooking. And in this case you can simply use regional train departing from Milano centrale or Milano Porta Garibaldi for Domodossola.
