Ms Samantha, Swiss pass is valid only upto border…accepted…but only by trains other than TGV or Lyria. Got an email in this effect from Mr Cedric Favre of SBB.ch. Pl correct this fallacy in swiss pass info/brochure.

I need to catch TGV from border cities like Basel or Geneva and not Zurich!!

For international trains with compulsory seat reservation, different conditions may apply indeed.

As you have already written: If you take the TGV Lyria train to Paris, you can purchase your ticket from the border stations Vallorbe, Geneva, or Basel.
