Hello,

I am unable to register for SwissPass and purchase a Half-Fare Travelcard as the system does not recognize my foreign telephone number (USA). The first step is to verify my account and it must send a text to my phone, but no text is ever received. How may I proceed with setting up my SwissPass account?

Are you intending to buy the Swiss Half Fare Card valid for 1 month? If yes, I guess you are about to buy the Half Fare Card which is destined for residents.

Hi RolandP,

I am looking to purchase the Half Fare Card for 1 year (185 CHF) as I will be staying in Switzerland for university. I am unsure if this changes the application process when compared to the 1 month card, but I am still hitting a roadblock when trying to validate my account via text per the link below:

I see.

If I were you, I wouldn’t bother about buying the Half Fare Card in advance. You could just buying it at any SBB Travel Center upon arrival in Switzerland. Just bring a passport photo or an equivalent online face picture for the card. Buying it on-site would also ease the distribution of the SwissPass card which is preferably sent to a Swiss address, e.g. your students’ home stay.

For the first days, until the card has been dispatched to your address, you will get a temporary card in form of a paper document with QR code, to be used with an official physical ID document that can be your passport, state ID, or driver license.

You may wish to write a pm to user @Ex-Bähnler, perhaps he still has some vouchers left that give you an additional CHF 33 reduction on the first purchase of the Half Fare Card.
