Zermatt to Milan

Me and one other person are planning to travel from Zermatt to Milan (and then on to Rome) on the 8th of November 2023. When we try to buy tickets we are shown routes, but when we maven to the purchase tickets we are greeted with an error message that states: "

Your journey could not be booked. The train is already fully booked or has been cancelled due to engineering work.
You have the following options:

We recommend selecting another connection.
For connections with changes: It may be possible to complete the purchase if you split the booking into the individual legs."

I understand that there are engineering works on that day but I am not sure why it stops our ability to book tickets in advance. What is our best option for travelling on that day?

The direct trains to Milan are very popular and also very quickly fully booked. There are still some seats available in 1st class. Alternatively, you can change to regional trains.
