Hello 2 questions for traveling with bikes on public transport in Switzerland:

1) If bikes are in bags with front wheel removed can they be taken on the glacier express? Website says no bikes but wondering if they are packed up if this is different.

2) If shipping bikes using SBB luggage service do you need to provide your own bike transport bag or is one provided for you? On the web site it lists bags can we stored for up to 4 days anyone with experience using this service for bikes?

1. If your bag is in a bag you can bring it as a hand luggage.

2. We will pack your bike, you don’t have to bring anything. We will store your bike 4 days like a baggage.

AuroraD Great, thank you for the information! We are debating traveling with our bike bags vs storing them at the airport and just traveling around Switzerland with bikes only. Do you have a recommendation?

If you travel with your bikes in bags, such as TranZ bag, you do not need a ticket and the chance that your bicycle will be transported is higher than when you travel with your bikes assembled, as they are. In the latter case, you need a reservation for your bikes on most IC trains, especially on weekends from Fri-Sun. Without reservation, there is no transport. In certain trains and public transport services, the transport of bicycles is may be allowed, may be restricted, or impossible.
