Hi, Im trying to decide between buying a travel pass and a saver pass, when i read online it says saver pass is gives the same coverage to trains, busses, boats and cable cars however when i look at the map of validity it says that some of the cable cars discount is only available for the saver pass in combination with the half fare pass.

So my question is do i need to have the half fare pass as well as the saver pass to get the discounts for the cable cars that the travel pass offers?

That’s correct, the Saver Day Pass without (Swiss) Half Fare Card does not offer the same coverage as when you hold, in additiona, a Half Fare Card or the GA travel card.

If you plan mountain excursions, it is very advisable to buy the (Swiss) Half Fare Card. The Swiss Half Fare Card is beneficial if you spend a total of CHF 240 on travel tickets, which is easily the case when you do mountain excursions.

Thanks so if i buy the half fare and saver day pass does the coverage match the GA travel card. Eg do the same boats cable carts get included at 50% off or are they free for both options?

The Saver Day Pass is valid everywhere where the GA travel card offers 100% coverage (so called “GA-Bereich”). On routes where the GA is partially accepted or not accepted, the full fare Saver Day Pass is not valid.

When you combine the Saver Day Pass with the Half Fare Card, on routes where the Saver Day Pass is not accepted, the Half Fare Card might offer a reduction.

You can find the validity map here: all red, black, blue, or yellow solid lines indicate that the Saver Day Pass is granting free access. Dotted lines mean, the full fare Saver Day Pass is not valid. Holders of the (Swiss) Half Fare Card or GA will benefit from a discount. Grey lines mean, no discount at all.
