Half Fare Card on SBB App

Hello, I will be traveling to Switzerland in December with my family and I just want to ask about something inside the SBB app. Clearly, the user can indicate if he/she and his/her co-passenger have half fare card. The SBB app doesn’t seem to check and validate this. The question is that will the half fare card be checked on the train? If not, then what’s the point of buying the half fare card when you can simply put on your passenger information that you have a half fare card. Thank you

Yes, the (Swiss) Half Fare Card is definitely checked by the ticket inspector. It is the only person being interested to see your Half Fare Card. If you declare a Half Fare Card in the SBB Mobile app without actually owning one, you will pay a hefty surcharge.
