Point to Point ticket (return trip

I always purchase two way Point to Point tickets for the round trip journeys, for example between Bern and Geneva or Zurich. Each ticket was valid till the next day 05:00. And then one day I found the statement on the SBB website about the validity of this kind of tickets “If you cannot complete your return journey on the same day or by 5am the following morning, please buy two single tickets instead (one for each direction).”
Does that mean one ticket can be used for both way (return trip) within the validity period? I did ask the SBB staff over the counter about this but she insisted “No” and I must also purchase the return ticket and she added the German version on the website is not the same. It was the English version presenting differently and that is confusing.

A one way ticket from A to B is good for one journey from A to B. If you buy a single and return ticket, it is good for two journeys, one from A to B and one from B to A, on the same day. You cannot take the same trip multiple times as with zone tickets. You are allowed to break your journey as often as you want on the way from A to B / B to A but no backtracking.

If you take a trip from A to B on Monday, and B to A on Friday, you must buy two single tickets for each direction as a single and return ticket is not valid multiple days.

A day is considered from 00:00 today until 05:00 in the morning of the next day. Within that time frame you can complete the journey as indicated on your ticket. But, once only!

Hi Roland, I purchased the point to point tickets at full price. In the description it written “one way or return ticket” and the validity period And the eticket I received stated as “Point to Point ticket, single journey” but it doesn’t stated whether it’s one way ticket or single & return ticket. And it last from 00:00 until next day 5:00. So Is it one way or return ticket in this case?

If your ticket states “Point to Point ticket, single journey”, then it is valid for a single journey, for example from Bern to Geneva. You can travel at any time with any train, from 00:01 AM today to 05:00 AM the next day. This means also, you could take a stopover of multiple hours somewhere in between, e.g. in Lausanne and continue. However, with this ticket, you are not allowed to travel back from Geneva to Bern.
