Hello MirShk
You can find all timetables on www.sbb.ch/en. Keep in mind that the day light is short at this time of the year.
You will have for her a normal Day Pass? It requires the (Swiss) Half Fare Card. A Saver Day Pass (SDP) for both would work, too.
Here some ideas from a train conductor, all doable with the SDP / day pass, at no extra costs:
- you could use the Treno Gottardo (IR 26) from Basel to Lugano, which is using the Gotthard Panorama line; or,
- go to Lucerne, the use the Lucerne-Interlaken Express to Interlaken, then onwoards to Bern, and have a little city tour there. The Christmas market in Bern is small but nice; or,
- take her from Basel to Delemont, then on to Glovelier. Change there to the Jura railways, taking you to La Chaux-de-Fonds; from there, via Neuchâtel to Fribourg. Have a little evening city tour in the old town of Fribourg, followed by an authentic fondue in Fribourg. Having worked in Fribourg for SBB, I suggest to have it at Café du Midi; or,
- take her to Winteregg, high above Lauterbrunnen (Basel SBB > Interlaken > Lauterbrunnen). On a winter day with good weather, it is the best spot to see the majestic Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains. You can take the cable car from Lauterbrunnen up to Grütschalp, then the train to Winteregg. Have lunch or coffee & cake there, followed by an easy walk to Mürren. From there, you can take the train back to Grütschalp and down to Lauterbrunnen. Mürren is worth a visit if she loves to see little wooden cottages and houses.
Kind regards,
Roland
