Hi, I purchased the Saver Day Pass for two days in February and will be traveling with a 29-inch suitcase. On the first day, I'll be taking a train from Arth-Goldau to Rigi Kulm, then using cableways and boats to get to Lucerne from Rigi Kulm, followed by a train to Interlaken. On the second day, I'll be traveling from Interlaken by train to Lauterbrunnen and Wengen, then buy full-priced tickets to Männlichen, and finally from Männlichen to Zermatt. I have a few questions: 1. Although I know the answer, I'd like to confirm if I don't need to buy additional tickets and can simply show the QR code at the entrance for boarding. 2. I might be using PE, IR, IC, inclined railway, cableways, boats, etc. How can I determine which segment requires a reservation and without which I won't be able to board? 3. I'd like to store luggage in Lauterbrunnen. I've confirmed there's no SBB travel centre or large lockers there, but I saw a note about luggage storage at the counter. Could you please confirm if it's possible to store luggage in the counter's luggage room? Thank you for your help! 😍

Hi,
I purchased the Saver Day Pass for two days in February and will be traveling with a 29-inch suitcase.

With the Supersaver Day Pass you can travel free of charge throughout Switzerland on the SBB network, you can find the area of validity here.

In the timetable on sbb.ch or in the sbb mobile app, you will find various symbols under the train name; if a train requires a reservation, it is marked with an “R”. Most of these are panoramic trains such as the Bernina Express. Reservations for such trains can be made by telephone or at the ticket office, you can find our telephone number here: https://www.sbb.ch/en/help-and-contact.html

You can also store your luggage with us at the SBB Travel Centre. You can conveniently store your luggage at our ticket counters for CHF 12 per day and piece of luggage. You can find more on the topic here.

I just checked using the app. Trains marked with the “R” symbol allow seat reservations for a fee of 5 francs. However, for trains without the “R” symbol (such as the train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen, train code R), seat reservations cannot be made.

I have additional questions:

Is it possible to reserve seats on trains without the “R” symbol? I’m concerned about not having a seat available.
If there are no seats available, can I still board the train? If so, where can I stand with my 29-inch suitcase?

Our colleague @StéphanieB1 has given you excellent advice.

Trains without “R” symbol do not provide seat reservations. In Switzerland, except for panoramic trains, seat reservations are very uncommon, we use the trains as people in other countries use buses or suburban trains

If you do not find a seat, you might have to stand in the aisle or on the platform. Usually, there are enough seats left as trains run frequently. The ride to Lauterbrunnen isn’t that long.
