That’s exactly the way Supersaver tickets work. In case of a delay, you take the next possible connection to your destination, this could also mean via a different route if you reach your destination faster.
However, if you will arrive by air, and your flight is late, and you consequently miss the train’s departure, your ticket will be lost as this is considered being your fault.
For longer distances a Saver Day Pass can be of better use, as it allows travelling at will on any public transport service on the day of validity.
