Deutsche Bahn train cancelled - possible to use SBB?

Hi,

I have a reserved journey (sparpreis) between Munich and Basel operated by DB, however Deutsche Bahn informed me in advance the train has been cancelled so I can now take any alternative route. The only feasible option is now to get the ECE Munich to Zurich, then an sbb train to Basel. However the Zurich Basel leg is not operated by DB. Would I need a new ticket for that part?

No, you can travel via Zurich. Simply keep the message that you have got from DB, it serves as a proof (confirmation) that the train binding has been lifted.

The OP probably has a Munich - Basel ticket that routes entirely on DB trains, within Germany. That you cannot use on alternative route via Switzerland AFAIK.

There is a special trilateral agreement between SBB, ÖBB, and DB exactly for this itinerary. In the event of cancellations, the ticket Munich - Basel SBB via Germany (DB) is also valid via Lindau-St. Margrethen-Zürich-Basel. This agreement rules out the regular AJC.

RolandP thanks, this was v helpful and indeed correct (on all fronts - my original ticket was entirely DB, but as that train did not exist it became valid for the Zrh route also)
