Half fare travelcard

Hey everyone.

I bought a half fare ticket from Zurique to Lausanne but I don’t have a half fare travel card because I thought the discount was because of buying the ticket earlier.
I tried to make a refund but they told me that:

“If you cannot travel on the booked connection of the Supersaver Ticket, you have the option of buying a ticket at the normal fare (no Supersaver Ticket) for the same day. We can only refund tickets with the completely identical route and class. We charge a fee of 10.- francs for the refund of the Supersaver Ticket.”

Can I buy a full fare ticket for the same route and get the refund (minus 10chf) of the half fare ticket ?

There is no need to do so.

Simply buy another normal point-to-point ticket for the same route at half fare. It is valid together with your already bought Supersaver ticket.

Working as a ticket inspector, I can surely tell you where to find that information: in the Saver ticket tariff. It is in German only, you can find it in the attached document at paragraph: 2.1.5

The tariff states (translated):
If a customer has purchased a supersaver ticket with a Half-Fare travelcard, although they do not have a travelcard, an additional half-price ticket at the standard fare is required; without a second ticket, they are deemed to be a passenger with a partially valid ticket in accordance with tariff 600.

→ A passenger with partially valid ticket means, you will have to pay in the train a surcharge of CHF 70 plus a normal half fare ticket.

You need

your already purchased Supersaver ticket
another ½ fare point-to-point ticket Zurich-Lausanne at CHF 38.50 in 2nd class

With these two tickets you can travel.
