There were two security who woke me up and told me off not to sleep.

Two security came up to me to tell me off not to sleep at St Gallen SBB Train Station. Is there anything criminal with what I did. It just so happen that it was quite a long trip for me and had never slept. I was just waiting for my train and have my alarm ready. So why were the 2 security waking me up to just to tell me off this way. It will be more insulting and discriminating if they were getting rid of homeless people and thought of me as such. The way he spoke to me was not coming from concern that I might miss my train. He bluntly told me I shouldn’t be sleeping and should keep my eyes open.

Nogelainn79 when was this? At Swiss stations you normally never have to wait long for the next train, so sleeping while waiting for a train is not something people do here.

Oh this was just yesterday. I wasn’t even lying down. I was just in my chair. Unlike you who seem to not know anything about traveling far, I was traveling all night and haven’t even reached my destination yet, sleepless. I had a flight to catch, another train to hop on to I was basically traveling all day so sleeping there wasn’t intentional. In fact I don’t even owe you an explanation or to the security for that matter. I simply dosed off on a chair. The issue is why the need to bother passengers with that without the intention of actually addressing a health and safety concern/emergency.

There was no offense, neither by @Krist nor by the security staff. It is simply that the train station house rule does not allow sleeping in stations.

Nogelainn79 I know quite a bit about traveling far, as I do a lot of long distance train travel myself. But I do plan my travels so that I do not have long layovers in the middle of the night, as I know that there are all kinds of issues associated with that. Railway stations often completely close overnight, and there are rules that mostly aim to prevent a station becoming a homeless shelter, as you found out.
So it is generally never a good idea to count on being able to hang around a station between the last and first trains of the day.

RolandP there is no policy about sleeping in the station, albeit unintentional sleeping. Please don’t falsify your own policy so you can make a comment not supporting sleeping in the station. Show me proof first that there was a prior ground rule and due warning that sleeping at the station is prohibited. That is their responsibility if they want a rule be observed. As I said earlier, the only way security should meddle with passenger’s business is when it comes to “securing” health and safety of their passengers. Calling them off because a passenger slept for that one reason is not in their job description. There is no imminent threat to security to that behaviour other than a baseless, nonsense waste of their profession. Boredom in one’s profession is not an excuse to randomly choose a scenario so you smell fresh and fragrant in the public eye.

The regulation in question can only be found as “additional explanations” in the full version of the generic “code of conduct” regarding the behaviour at SBB train stations. This document can be found here (german only), see Art. 8 related to waiting areas in the table under chapter 2.2.

However even in German, the related current wording of that rule is quite awkward. I guess that “und Schlafen” at the end of the last sentence does also apply to individual persons and is not necessarily related to excessive drinking, but it’s not that clear!
(A much better and clearer wording would be: “Nicht gestattet sind Schlafen sowie ausgiebiger Alkoholkonsum, letzteres insbesondere in Gruppen von zwei oder mehreren Personen.”)

Rather than making an extreme comparison of hanging around in between the hours of first and last trains to make a point, I suggest try and evaluate your reading comprehension. I truly appreciate the old lady sitting beside me getting crossed with the security who told me off sleeping. She basically said, in German, I poorly understood her but she said I wasn’t doing anything wrong, and I was just sleeping to the security but the security were insistent on their statement so she walked out, which i had a feeling she did not want to aggravate her agument. I simply went quiet in my seat as I did not wish to escalate the situation further, and honestly I was dead tired to even muster the energy.
