i wish to travel from milan central to lucerne by train on june 10th, believe the gotthard tunnel is closed, any alternative route

The travel via Gotthard will still be possible. If not via the Gotthard base tunnel (which will be partially reopened for passenger trains from the Easter weekend), then via the Panorama line as right now.

Please consult the SBB timetable by either downloading the SBB Mobile app or by visiting sbb.ch/en.

The timetable for June is not out yet completely.

many thanks, if i have swiss travel pass to travel from milan to lucerne how would i buy a ticket as my pass would cover me from chiasso to lucerne

You can purchase a through ticket with Trenitalia (or SBB) from Milan to Lucerne, and stating the GA Travel Card as reduction type. The ticketshop will automatically deduct the Swiss stretch.

I agree, STP is valid for travels from Chiasso to Lucerne. You can buy tickets Milano to Chiasso at ticketshop trenitalia or ATM Trenitalia.

For Eurocity Milano C. to Lugano, you choose “ticket + reservation”, ticket fare including seat reservation.

RomanoS I think that generally it is a good idea to buy a ticket from the railway of the country where the trip starts. So for Italy - Switzerland trips that would be Trenitalia.

In this case, if there is a problem with your tickets you can always just go to the station and talk to a human.
