Hello, have booked a train from Munich to Zurich on the 8th of march and I am struggling to understand it’s status.I understand that DB is having strikes.

Looking at the SBB website it’s saying it’s cancelled but is still letting me buy a ticket.

I need to take it the full length from Munich to Zurich, will my ticket be accepted on other later trains if the train at 12:54 does not run from Munich?

Yes, the tickets can be used on any connection from Munich to Zurich. Right now, SBB does not have yet received all information from DB concerning the strike. This explains why the systems are not yet up to date.

If you can, travel on 7 March.

You will get more informations 24 hours in advance, look also at the site bahn.de (Deutsche Bahn) to see wich trains are running. I suggest to make a new seat reservation in another train on this site if your train is cancelled, choose "Book seat only*. Tickets are valid on every train on 08/03/2024 or the following days.

RolandP The strike starts on March 7, it is not a good idea to travel on this day.

Danhiel Okay, thank you for this information, I might have to take another train on the 8th. My ticket was in first class but I didn’t have a seat reservation. Will I be able to reserve another seat on a different train and stay in First Class?

loulutch Yes, you can use your ticket in First Class. A problem on this line is that the trains are short and have often not enough seats.

You can regularly check the timetables on bahn.de. When the train is cancelled, you can see « Trip is not possible ». For March 8 I see only « Notifications are available ». It means that it is now not clear it the train is canceled or not.

The strike should end at 1 pm on March 8, but it doesn’t mean that all trains will run after this time. It needs time to reorganize the network.

You can also download the app « DB Navigator » on your mobile phone, select the trains between Munich and Zurich and save them. You will get a notification if any change is planned. You can make seat reservations with this app.

The timetables for March 8th are now available. Unfortunately, all direct trains to Zurich are canceled. I suggest you to take a regional train to Lindau-Reutin, for example the RE 96 without further changes or the next available train. At Lindau-Reutin, you have trains for Switzerland via Bregenz (Austria) and St. Margrethen SG. No seat reservations are possible or needed in regional trains.

RE 96 are operated by Go-Ahead which is not impacted by the strike.

Danhiel Thank you so much for your response. If I take the RE96 to Lindau will I then need to buy a seperate ticket for the OBB services or will my existing ECE192 ticket be usable for first class on those trains?

Are there any other options I can take where I don’t need to buy a ticket and can still use first class, or should I refund my ticket and buy new ones?

loulutch Your ticket is valid on every train between Munich and Zurich via Lindau - Bregenz in First Class. This is the same route, but other routes are also allowed in this situation.

The regional trains in Germany have First Class, but sometimes only 12 seats. In Austria they have no First Class.
