Hi all,

I am travelling back and forth from Zurich to Milan.
I always take the train Milan-Zurich on Tuesday, always at the same time.
Is there a way I can save money or just avoid buying the ticket every week with a monthly/yearly pass?

I don’t think that such passes are available, but seat reservations are mandatory in the international trains to Italy, you could not avoid to buy a ticket every time.

You could buy a GA Travelcard but I’m not sure that it is cheaper, unless you use it for other trips in Switzerland. You can find the prices here:

You have to do the maths, as only you know how much you spend on travel cost per year.

I would also have said to purchase the GA (AG - abonnamento generale), and to purchase either an EC ticket from Milan to Chiasso, from where your GA is valid, or to purchase an Arcobaleno ticket (only valid on RE trains, not on EC trains).

Danhiel I never had a seat reservation btw so I do not think it is mandatory. Thank you anyways!

GA is not convenient for me, I knew that. I was wondering if there was any other option like buying a pass for the same route. Thank you anyways!

Unfortunately, no; there is no “abonnamento transfrontaliera” that would be valid for the entire route, Milan to Zurich and v.v.

And yes, for the EC from Chiasso to Milan you are required to have a seat reservation. It is issued automatically together with your ticket. For travel within Switzerland, a seat reservation is not required.

RolandP Maybe if you take the EC but not if you take the regional train, which is what I normally do as it is way less expensive.

That’s true, but was not obvious from your original post; I assumed you wanted to travel the most convenient way 🙂

If you use the regional train, you could combine a Saver Day Pass and an Arcobaleno transfrontaliera ticket. Or a Supersaver ticket and an Arcobaleno transfrontaliera ticket. It depends on how flexible you are.
