Interlaken to Venice, Italy Using Swiss Pass and TrenItalia Pass

My wife and I will be in Switzerland this April and will be using a SwissPass (First class) during our travels. We will be in Interlaken at the end of our Switzerland trip and will then be headed to Venice to begin our 10 day Italy trip (Venice to Florence to Rome). I’m planning to purchase a TrenItalia Pass (First class) and would like to use it for part of the Interlaken-Venice ticket. The TrenItalia website mentions that the pass can be used for Italy-Switzerland trains (on domestic routes within Italy). Can someone confirm that I will be able to travel from Interlaken to Venice by using these 2 separate passes (SwissPass and TrenItalia Pass)? And how do I actually book this ticket (online or in person in Interlaken)? We live in the USA and this is our first time using in both countries. Thank you for your help!

Seat reservations are not mandatory in Switzerland, you can use your pass (Swiss Travel Pass) from Interlaken to the border station, Domodossola or Chiasso, depending on your route.

From the border station to Venice, you should buy the reservations on trenitalia.com, according the rules of your Trenitalia Pass.

An important information about Trenitalia Passes:

A “trip” is one trip on one train regardless of length, not one journey! If you connect and change trains, that counts as 2 trips; plan your itineraries accordingly.

Danhiel Thank you for your quick and very useful reply. I didn’t know about this “trip” rule of Trenitalia Pass and as such I am unsure about its purchase. Can I buy a separate or add-on ticket from either Domodossola or Chiasso to Milan (or ideally Venice) from Interlaken station? And is there a way for me to know the cost of this ticket now? Ideally, I would like to book it well in advance of reaching Interlaken because our dates are fixed. Please advise as to what’s the easiest solution for us. Thank you again!

T2_Travel You can find the prices on trenitalia.com from the border station, but it is not simple to find the best relation, most are with regional trains who are uncomfortable. The best trains are the EC (Eurocity) and Frecciarossa.

I have decided that the best option for me is to book this ticket on SBB website. We will take the train from Interlaken to Spiez and then on to Milan from Spiez (change of train). We were able to use our Swiss Pass to get partial credit for the train to Milan and just pay the difference. We will then travel from Milan to Venice on a separate train operated by Italo. Danheil was most helpful.
