Hello humble_pen
Kindly note, the Swiss Half Fare Pass is correctly named Swiss Half Fare Card.
Prices for standard point-to-point tickets do not vary, they are set once per year (in December) and are fixed, not matter the time of purchase. In contrary, the prices for Supersaver tickets and the Saver Day Passes do vary, depending on the demand and the time of purchase; the nearer the travel date, the higher the cost. Purchase a Saver Day Pass if a standard point-to-point return ticket is more costly than the Saver Day Pass. Or, if you want to enjoy free travel on any public transport service (mountain excursions are not included with the SDP) without worrying about purchasing tickets for every single ride.
You have to look up ticket costs to know if the Swiss Travel Pass or the Swiss Half Fare Card is more economic for your trip. Nevertheless, both offer the Swiss Family Card. And yes, the kids travel for free if accompanied by at least one parent and the parent holds a valid ticket.
So, we’ll only need 3 adults discounted point-to-point tickets and 3 half fare pass? Am I correct?
Yes, correct.
If you quickly enumerate your trip itinerary, I could tell you whether the Swiss Half Fare Card or the Swiss Travel Pass is the better option. It also depends on the number of days you are going to spend in Switzerland. And, how many mountain excursions you are planning to do.
