Seat Reservation

I am planning to travel from Montreux to Basel in June. I would have connections in Lausanne and Bern. The information on the app shows that I can make reservations for both the Lausanne to Bern segment and the Bern to Basel segment. However, when I try to make reservations, I am only able to make reservations for the Bern to Basel segment. I have the SwissPass so am not also purchasing seats. Any thoughts?

Seat reservations are very uncommon in Switzerland and not mandatory. Here, the train is considered mass transit; Swiss people simply get on the next possible train without loosing a thought on seat reservations - our trains have free seating.

Consequently, seat reservations are possible for EC / IC / TGV / RJX / ICE trains only, not for IR trains.

For your journey, a seat reservation is defintely not needed.
