In a few more months I will go to Zurich and I wanted to buy the saver day pass to go to cities like Lucerne and Bern but I am not sure if with this pass I can travel by public transport within Zurich like buses and trams.

The Saver Day Pass grants unlimited travel on the Swiss public transport system, also in cities. Mountain excursions are excluded, with some exceptions.

Finally, I understand that with the saver day pass it is not necessary to book the trains that go to other cities. Is this the case?

Should I just get on the train that works for me?

Your understanding is totally correct.

Yes, you simply hop on and off the trains / buses / trams / boats as you like. Some PE trains require a seat reservation, any other public transport service has free-seating. This is why using public transport in Switzerland is so easy; it works like a metro or suburban train in your country.

When boarding the train or bus, is there a validating machine where I must validate my saver day pass or is it simply valid for the selected day?

Pablo Sepúlveda It is simply valid for the selected day. Please note this rule if a control occurs:

Tickets purchased online are personal and non-transferable and are only valid in conjunction with a valid form of ID belonging to the person travelling (passport, identity card, driving licence).
