Hi, I’ve been checking using OBB site but it only allows seat reservation until the month of may. I will check back again in June if it allows me. The rail tickets I purchased are standard tickets with no discount. I have a connection ticket from Zurich HB to Buchs SG, depart 08:40, arr: 09:48.
Buchs SG - Otztal dep: 10:00, arr:1146. Do I get off the train or I stay seated. As you mentioned on previous replies there’s construction going on at Buchs train station. Will I get notifications if I get rerouted before my departure date? Thank you for all the help.

Zurich HB leaving august 30,2024 at 0840 am to Austria (Oetztal) and returning to Zurich via Oetztal on September 2,2024 at 12:12 . Four people travelling together.

You should normally have been able to reserve seats at the when you bought the ticket.
You know have two options.

Not reserving tickets. The probability that there will be no free seats at all on these trains is low. And reservations are not compulsory.
Reserve seats on www.oebb.at Just select “reservation only” on the search screen.

Krist I don’t agree, trains on the Arlberg route from Zurich are very busy. Sometimes cars are added in Feldkirch, but it’s necessary to change. I think that it is better to make reservations.

I tried to make seat reservations using the link OBB but it only allows reservation up to July. My ticket is for August.

Caloojouc12 try again in June. The railways probably don’t know yet what train they are going to use on that date.
You are probably the first one to buy a ticket for that train…

May be seat reservation are only possible from Feldkirch to Oetztal (construction works Buchs (SG) - Feldkirch). Please check timeable again a few weeks before travel date.

The route between Buchs SG and Feldkirch will be closed from 10 August to 9 September 2024; the exact rail replacement plan is still being drafted.

This situation is very common because you can buy tickets six months in advance and the planning of construction works is not known.

I think your train could be rerouted over St. Margrethen without change. Be patient and wait until the new timetables are published. We will help you if necessary. The communications I found are:

Due to construction work no local-trains can operate between Feldkirch Bahnhof and Buchs SG from 10/08/2024 (08:00am) through 09/09/2024 (04:00am). A rail replacement bus service is being arranged.

Due to construction work, some long-distance trains will be rerouted via St. Margrethen between Buchs SG and Sargans from 08/10/2024 to 09/09/2024.

If your train is not rerouted, but other trains later, you could perhaps exchange your tickets for another train. What kind of ticket do you have? Supersaver or full price?

Caloojouc12 the confusion stems from the fact that you believe you bought a ticket for a train. However there is in fact no such thing as a train ticket. Look at what you received. It will not have “train ticket” written on it.

What you have is a transportation contract for Zurich to Oetztal. And so the railways will transport you from Zurich to Oetztal. It is very well possible (and if you book so far in advance highly probable) that there may be schedule changes between now and your moment of travel. That is why the railways always mention that you should check the schedule again closer to the date of travel. Anyway, even if you bought a discounted ticket that technically binds you to a particular train, the moment the original schedule is no longer possible your ticket becomes valid for any train on the route, without you needing to exchange anything. Your ticket is for a route, not a train.

The route via st. Margarethen will probably be slower, so you will either arrive later in Oetztal, or have to leave earlier in Zurich. You will find that out when you check the schedule again somewhere in July. And if you want you can try a reservation then.

If you have a specific timetable mentioned in the transport contract (ticket), you have no guarantee to be transported with the planned trains and to arrive on time at destination, as explained before, but, if you arrive 60 minutes late, you can obtain a compensation of 25% of the ticket price and, if your are 120 minutes late, you can obtain a compensation of 50%.

Krist In my opinion, leave earlier in Zurich is not allowed with a discounted ticket. In this case, I would contact the ticket office to clarify if it is possible to exchange the ticket.

Need help interpreting this tickets please. The reason I booked a direct/ no transfer is because my husband has mobility issue.

With a Standard ticket you have no problem and you can take every train on August 30.

For the return ticket “Sparschiene Komfort” you must take the train mentioned at the departure in Oetztal.

I suggest to wait for the definitive timetables to see if the trains are rerouted and which ones. It will also be possible to contact the Service Center of the SBB if we cannot help you.

Hi, I just want to confirm that on August 30, Zurich - Buchs SG ,Buchs SG - Oetztal, I don’t get off the train. I this correct? I googled Where is Buchs SG and it’s an international border station.

Caloojouc12 Yes, it is correct. Buchs SG is the border station and you can usually stay in the train when no engineering works are planed. I hope that your train will be rerouted, the new border station will be St. Margrethen, but your tickets will be still valid.

On the usual route Buchs - Feldkirch, you cross the Principality of Liechtenstein, a very small country between Switzerland and Austria.

It can be confusing, but separate tickets are often delivered for each country or in other cases for every train. It were to complicated to explain why. It could depend of the carriers, the laws or the different countries or commercial agreements between the carriers.
