One day in Luzern

Hello Team.. I am looking for spending one day in luzern and will mostly do boat riding and visit some of the beautiful villages(Weggis Vitznau etc…) and might include Mt. Rigi as well in the itinerary. I am looking for any kind of pass that will be economical to get around luzern in boat. I am not looking for save day pass, because I do not have any specific date in mind and will decided based on the weather. Also, seems like saver day pass might cost me more only for all day boat riding. any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Without knowing where you will be based, any suggestion is difficult.

For how many days in total will you be staying in Switzerland? What else do you have planned? Will you have the Swiss Half Fare Card at least?

Keep in mind that flexibility is costly. So are this kind of tickets.

RolandP I am glad you asked me these.. Thanks. Here is my plan.. I will have a saver day pass ( saver days pass for me and my spouse and children day pass for my chid) for 28th Jun to travel from Tirano to Luzern. I will be staying in interlaken region for next 5 days (29th Jun to 3rd July).. I will buy bernese oberland pass for 4 days and explore the jungfrau region. Depending on the weather I will spend one day either on 29th Jun or on 3rd July in Luzern. So, just for one day in luzern to enjoy the beautiful lake, boat ride, Mt. Rigi what would be most economical way? Please let me know if you need any additional clarification. Thanks in advance.

Apologies for my delayed response, I am on holiday right now and checking the SBB Community sporadically.

Btw, 3rd July is my birthday 🙂

The Saver Day Pass will cover the whole Mt. Rigi trip and I think it would be the most economical offer, provided you purchase it early. The question mark is the weather which cannot be predicted more than 2 days out. But Mt. Rigi is worth a visit anyway, in the summer, you will meet the cows up there, and they will give you a concert with their bells.

What concerns the Mt. Rigi trip, I suggest doing it while you stay in Luzern. I am not sure if you will stay in Luzern when arriving from Tirano? Doing the Mt. Rigi trip as a day excursion from Interlaken is not really recommended, you will need too much time for the transfer from Interlaken to Luzern and back. What do you think?

RolandP Hello, I appreciate you responding during your holiday.. Best wishes for your upcoming birthday 🙂
So, I have saver day pass only for 28th for now, that day I will travel from Tirano to Luzern and will reach at Luzern around 5 -6 PM and will stay at luzern ( but on that same day on 28th we cannot do Mt. Rigi). So, there are Two plan based on the weather
Plan 1 ) If weather is good, then next day (29th) we will explore luzern by boat , visit beautiful villages and go to Mt. Rigi. - and then we will travel to interlaken at night and will stay from 29 to 3rd before fly back via zurich airport ( 4th July Morning)
Plan 2) If weather is not good on 29th, will directly to interlaken and stay there from 29th to 2nd July Night. Next day morning 3rd July, we will start the journey from Interlaken to Luzern ( i will have to come to luzern anyway because 4th morning is my flight from Zurich) , So It will be on my way. will explore Luzern and Mt. Rigi on 3rd July (assuming weather will be good ).

So, as you can see i cannot buy the saver day pass in advance, because we don;t know the date in advance. So I am looking for a one day pass only for luzern that can cover Mt. Rigi and boat ride. I am not sure if there are any such pass. or any other suggestion you may have.

Even I’m concerned that @RolandP will give you a better advice, my opinion here underneeth 😉

I just calculed the price for just one persons from Lucerne to Rigi Kulm an from Lucerne to Interlaken. I came up with a total Price of CHF 96.60, without any other bus transportation or any other track that you will my experience that day, in the first option.
The price for a saver day pass for tomorrow (01.05.2024) is CHF 119. Having said that, you could then have a look two days in advance for the weather and see If you place your first or second option in act and then purchase (if there are some left - should be the case in my opinion) the saver day passes. I just checked now for tomorrow (01.05.2024) and there is availability.

Unfortunatelly in your case there isn’t a 1 Day Swiss Travel Pass or any other Passes for international clients, so far I know.

Please be aware to calculate the right times for your trip to Rigi, because from Lucerne to Interlaken it’s a trip of 1h and 49 minutes.

Depending how old your children are, be aware of these informations

There is no day pass for the Lucerne area, but you could purchase a return or round trip ticket at the SBB Travel Center in Lucerne. I, personally, would still try to fix a date as you will have to book the accommodation as well, don’t you?

The Mt. Rigi return ticket via boat is CHF 65.50 per adult.

We didn’t talk about children yet. For the children, if any, you could purchase the Junior card for CHF 30 per child, valid for 1 year; it will allow them free travel in Switzerland when accompanied by you, provided you as parents hold a valid ticket. You can get it from the SBB Travel Center.

RolandP That completely make sence to fix a date anyway and go for saver day pass.
For my kid - I was thinking for day pass children for CHF 19. But Junior Card seems to be better option looks like. But I have couple of question on Junior Card -
1) As i know, i cannot buy it online and can only get from SSB Travel Central, then how can we start the journey from Tirano to Chur? Can we buy it from Tirano?
2) We will take Berner Oberland Pass for me and my spouse to explore the jungfrau region. Can you please tell me if the validity area for Junior Card will be the same and OB card. In that case, i don;t have to buy a OB pass for my kid. and that will be a big plus.

Thanks for your response.. yes i think i need to finalize the day so, decided to buy saver day pass on 3rd july as well.. so if weather permits will visit mt. Rigi that will be entirely covered..
One last question. With half fare card, i will get a complimentary family card for my kid. In that case she can travel free every where in switzerland as long as we have a valid ticket. Is that right? I dont have to think about the validatiy map or mode of transportation for my kid’s family travel pass. Is that right?
