Riwhooghooll32 As an additional note, as I just checked your intended connection to Zurich regarding the current expected occupation rates for that IC8:
It is low (1 of 3 human symbols) for today, and there’s not much reason that there will be more crowds on the same train on a weekday in mid-july. Also, the IC8 will most probably look like this, so due to the double-decker coaches it will provide about twice as much seating capacity than what you experienced before on the RE41 MGB Zermatt-Visp train (without reservation). The IC8 requires that capacity especially between Thun, Berne and Zurich during commute peak times, but not in the middle of the day. The total number of passengers would roughly be the same on both trains, so you’ll most likely will find about twice as many free seats in the IC8 when boarding in Visp than what you had before on the RE41 from Zermatt.
In other words (unless you already booked one), there’s absolutely reason for seat reservations on that IC8 leg neither. So save that money and have an additonal beer in Zurich (or in the IC8 dining car) instead!
