Hi Im planning to book a train from Lausanne to Milan for late May. We are a family of three and plan to use Swiss Travel pass. Can we reserve the seats for the EC train from Lausanne to Milan eventhough its not mandatory. I tried the SBB site, bit its shows the ticket price including the reservation, so please advise how to purchase only the ticket reservation of 5 EUR each Thank you in advance Chinthika

Simply book the train from Lausanne to Milan on [sbb.ch/en](https://www.sbb.ch/en), and select 'GA Travel Card' as reduction type. By doing so, you will let the booking system know that your Swiss stretch is covered by the Swiss Travel Pass. There is actually no need to book additional tickets from Domodossola. If you book the tickets as instructed by me above, your seats will be reserved starting from Lausanne, and your ticket is valid from Lausanne to Milan, while you do not pay for the Swiss part of the trip which is still covered by your valid STP. This trick works, provided you hold a valid STP on the departure day from Switzerland. It is not possible with a Saver Day Pass or any other ticket. _Prices in Switzerland are, by the way, in CHF, not in EUR. Our legal tender is CHF; we do not use the EUR._ Kind regards, Roland

@"Chinthika"#p86871 Hi. Do you already have valid tickets for Italy? The Swiss Travel Pass is valid only to Domodossola. Without ticket for Italy you will pay more as 5 EUR. It is mandarory to reserve seats in Italy.

Dear Roland Thank you for the detailed explanation and appreciate it very much as it makes the booking process simple! I did a mock entry on the SBB web as instructed. On the ticket, it is mentioned GA Switzerland. Will it be questioned by the SBB inspectors as we hold a Swiss Travel pass and not GA. Hi Roland Thank to the detailed info, I booked one EC train Lausanne to Milan( which is the last leg of the trip from Swiss) Now Im trying to book a train from Milan to Luzern (first leg of the trip to Swiss) and need your advice again. I noticed the EC 312 train on 22 May at 7.10 am has an updated timetable with 2 changes in Arth Goldau and Rotkreuz. Would like to know whether there is any possibility that this schedule will be changed again. Alternatively there is a non EC cheaper train (REG) departing at 6.43am but noticed the transfer times are just 4 min between changes. Will it be reasonably enough for a person with a carry on mid size luggage Thanks a lot! Chinthika

Transfer times mentioned by the planner are always reasonable. But since you have unlimited travel with your Swiss Travel Pass you should not worry about that. Just make sure you have a ticket from Milano to Chiasso, on whichever train that suits you.

Seat Reservation for EC trains with Swiss travel pass

Sossoulie81 I am a bit confuse because the cost should be free within Switzerland (due to STP) and the CHF 42 should be related to the ticket and seat reservation that related for Italy (please confirm it that make sense)? Does your comment advise me to buy ticket or reserve seat from other official website or no action required after we have paid the CHF 42?

The 42 CHF is indeed for the Italian part of the trip (Chiasso - Milano). You will also get a reservation, but that will be all the way to Luzern. So if you book this you are all set.
