Lucerne to Milan

I am travelling from Lucerne to Milan. It says there is a 14 minute stop to transfer in Lugano. How far is platform 1 from platform 7. Also my swiss pass will be valid for Lucerne to Lugano so I have to buy another ticket for Lugano to Milan. Do I have to buy in advance? Thank you.

Even a three-minute change at Lugano station is possible. We Swiss do like it efficient, long transfers and waiting at the station is not what we like. Therefore, the timetable would not suggest an itinerary that is not doable. 14 minutes is three times what you will need to change platforms.

I think you mean your Swiss Travel Pass (SwissPass is a resident offer). Your Swiss Travel Pass covers your travel to Chiasso, the border station, albeit you are changing trains already at Lugano. Thus, you simply need a ticket from Chiasso to Milan. Tickets for the RE trains are solely valid on RE trains, not on EC trains.

Shuesawhau82 If you travel with a regional train (RE) and you want to buy the ticket from Chiasso to Milan in advance, buy it in the Trenitalia mobile app on your smartphone. An online check-in is necessary, but you could change the selected train if you are late before the check-in.
