Hi. I am booking 2 Adult tickets (with Half Fare Card 1 month) and 2 Kids tickets (they are on the Swiss Family Card, aged 7 and 😎 on the Interlaken-Lucerne express. The fares are showing half fares (CHF16.50) for all 4 of us. I thought the kids would travel free? Under Profile of my co-passengers, I am only able to select “No Discount”, “Half Fare” options for the kids. I selected Half Fare as there is no option for Swiss Family Card. What do I need to do?

Thank you for your message.

The Family Card is not a season ticket and therefore cannot be selected as a discount. You do not have to enter the children as co-travelers only if you book a seat reservation or it requires an additional ticket (for international travel or various private mountain railroads).

As a follow up, under Profile of my co-passengers (the kids), these are the options. I dont see any for the Swiss Family Card, so would appreciate if someone can advise me on which ‘discount’ to pick so that the ‘zero’ fare is reflected for the kids? SBB Kids.PNG

Simply select the Junior Travel Card which is the equivalent.

But again, you overdo things; you do not have to buy CHF 0.00 tickets for the child, the Swiss Family Card *IS* their ticket, provided you travel with the child, and you hold a valid ticket for yourself.

I managed to search for previous topics on the same issue. My conclusion - if you have kids on a Swiss Family Card, you do not need to book separate tickets for them. This means, I would only purchase tickets for the adults and nothing else. Anyway it looks like if there are any questions/concerns, it is easy to approach the railway station officers and make direct queries there.
