1st class seats

We’re 3 people traveling from Zurich to Saltzburg on August 1st and have already purchased the tickets in 1st class. It’s going to be a long journey, so we want to make sure to have our seats next to each others. Do we need to reserve a seat in advance? (which is not available yet though) Even without a seat reservation, our 1st class seats are still confirmed? Is there a possibility that they oversell the seats?

Koivaiwouc47 I suggest to reserve seats in advance, some trains on the Arlberg line are very busy. Seat reservations are possible on oebb.at:

Select “Find Services” and “Seat reservation only”. For the Railjets you can select the seats on a diagram. It seems that it is not possible now for August, try later.

Some pople have flexible tickets and can use every train. It is unpredictable to know in advance how much people is travelling on a train. Only a ticket gives no guaranteed seat.

Danhiel Thank you for your reply. I’ll reserve a seat as soon as it is available. I wasn’t sure how to just reserve a seat, so it was very helpful.

It’s exactly a month before the trip and I tried to reserve our seats at https://shop.oebbtickets.at/en/ticket. The train leaving Zurich at 12:40 still shows “Ticket not available”. Is it too early or does that mean all seats are now booked up? We have already purchased its ticket, so we only need to reserve seats.

Koivaiwouc47 From August 1st it is not possible to reserve seats, but it doesn’t mean that all trains are sold out. I don’t know why. Perhaps the timetables are not definitive due to engineering works somewhere in Austria.

Danhiel Yes, I just found out there will be some constructions in Austria. I guess that’s the reason. I’ll keep checking it. Thank you so much, again!
