transfer time at Lugano railway station

hi, i am travelling from Lucerne to Lugano in Gotthard panoramic express on 4th june’24
Which is to reach Lugano railway station at 16:41 pm at platform 1 as per SBB information.
as i m continuing to travel from lugano to milano central on my next train RE80 which is leaving from platform 1
at 17:02 (as per SBB information). I m travelling with my family of four with luggage do i have sufficient time to
transfer .

No problem, you have 20 minutes to change and normally on the same platform. You can get off the train, wait in the same place and get on the RE80 train.

The only problem could be if the Gotthard Panoramic Express is late and you miss the RE80, but you have every hour a RE80 to Milan and you could take the next one.

KAVYOMEE No, you have to buy a ticket from Chiasso (the border station with Italy) to Milano Centrale.

The easier way to buy this ticket is the SBB Mobile app on your smartphone, this is an “Arcobaleno Transfrontaliera” ticket and it cost 6 CHF (2nd class) for an adult. This ticket is only valid on regional trains (the RE80 is a regional train).

Please note that this ticket is only valid 4 hours, you must select the right train from the border station of Chiasso, the 17:02 train leaves Chiasso at 17:31. The ticket will be valid until 21:31 and you could also take the next train if you miss the connection in Lugano.

KAVYOMEE Yes, you can, but you could also buy these tickets in other tickets offices everywhere in Switzerland or on vending machines.

Given your other question you apparently also need a class upgrade for the Panorama Express.
So you could go to the ticket office in Lucerne at a convenient time to you, and get the class upgrade, and the add on ticket Chiasso - Milano there.

And 20 minutes is long for a transfer in Switzerland…
