Hi,

I am spending one night in Canton Ticino and my accommodation fair includes a “tassa comunale” which - I understand - comes with a Ticino Ticket which allows me to travel on public transports at advantageous fairs or conditions. Is that true? And if so, how can I get my Ticino Ticket and how do I use it when I buy my train tickets on the the FFS website?

I have looked for relevant information in the FAQ section of the website, but unfortunately I have not been able to find anything.

The hotel you booked should send you an activation code, you can use it to activate you Ticino ticket digitally, or during checking in they will give you a paper format Ticino ticket. and when you have the valid Ticino ticket will don’t need to buy any ticket with FFS. you travel for free for the whole canton.

Many thanks for your quick and kind reply. Do you also know if there is a specific time frame within which I can use my Ticino Ticket? Can it be activated only in the 24h after my overnight stay, for example, or the day before my overnight stay? Do you know if there is any online page/website where I can find all these detailed information? Thank you again for all your help.

Hi LV1,

From my personal experience, the ticket should be usable from the day you get it (in paper format in my case) until the midnight of your check out day. I, for example, used the ticket to do the Swiss part of Vigezzina Centovalli panoramic train ride on my check out day. I stayed in a hotel in Lugano for 2 nights and I used the ticket to move around for the three days when I was there. Except the ticket I paid to arrive at Lugano as my ticket was in Paper format. I hope this will help you.
