SBB Seat Reservation

We are travelling as a family of 3. Last year, I could make seat reservations online (sbb.ch) and was able to choose the compartment type (preference?), and select family coach compartment on specific trains.

However, while planning the trip for this summer I could not seem to find an option to select the compartment and/or seat preference at all. Seats seemed automatically assigned for me. Did I miss something?

It is still possible to select the zone, if available.
With no information on a specific connection it is difficult to help. Could you give us that information so we can look into it?

RolandP Thanks for the fast reply! As an example, I’m booking Zurich Flughafen - Zermatt trip on 2.07.2024 at 11:45am.

The Flug.-Visp (IC8) leg is reservable with family coach. However, when adding seat reservation, there is no “zone” option. I can only tick the “Seat Reservation” checkbox. Clicking “Continue” button brought me to the checkout page with seat number assigned. I can only click “Buy now”.

This went the same when buying only the seat reservation, the seats are automatically assigned.

I have to do some researches. I will be back soon.

As I am working regularly on the Zurich HB to Brig line as a train conductor, I can tell you that a reservation would not be needed for the family coach. Mid day on a Tuesday is not a busy time, the seat load factor on this train is about 30-50 %. Consequently, you could easily board the FA coach at Zurich Flughafen and find a seat latest 10 minutes later at Zurich HB, where most fellow travellers will get off and you can install yourself comfortably there.
