Ticket Type to Get on and off Trains

On 7 June, 2024, we plan to take a ferry from Weggis to Luzern, then a train to Spiez. We would like to be able to walk around Luzern and maybe some other towns along the way. Can we get on and off at different stations and visit the towns with a SuperSaver ticket (all on the same day), or do we need to buy a Point-to-point or some other kind of ticket?

The Supersaver ticket is neither intended, nor does it allow intermediate stops. You must stick to the itinerary as selected during purchase.

In my opinion, a Supersaver ticket is not a good ticket for sightseeing, as it kills any flexibility. It is intended for travellers who want to travel straight from destination A to destination B outside peak times and know at purchase that they will be able to meet the schedule and departure times as required by the ticket.

You must purchase a Point-to-point ticket, which is good for any service/train on that day, or a Saver Day Pass. A full fare ticket is CHF 65; depending on the travel date and availability, if you find a full Saver Day Pass for less, e.g. CHF 52, then you could purchase a Saver Day Pass (attention: this pass is not refundable or changeable).

Hi, Roland.
I’m glad to know I can get on and off the trains and visit some towns along the way by buying a Point-to-point or a Saver Day Pass. However, I put in those same towns you’re showing for 11:05am on 7 June, and the Saver Day Pass shows CHF 97 instead of the CHF 52 that your reply shows. Did you have another discount card you were using? Maybe I will need to buy the Point-to-point tickets for CHF 65 instead.

Well, the Saver Day Pass is an offer that can run out of stock, and if still available, the price is increasing the nearer the travel date. There is a certain number of Saver Day Passes on sale per day, first buyers are the winners.

The best ticket option for 7 June is the one for CHF 65. It also allows you to take the trains as you like, yet no backtracking.

No, I did not use any travel card as I do not have a travel card; the CHF 65 is the full fare cost.

Depending on your travel plans, the Bernese Oberland Pass could be a viable alternative, it is valid from Lucerne.

In my dummy booking I assumed you are going to take the Lucerne Interlaken Express from Lucerne to Interlaken rather than the IR15 train via Bern. The Lucerne Interlaken Express is less costly than the IR15 and very scenic; it’s one of the most picturesque train lines we have in our country.

Hi, Roland,
For several days now, I’ve been trying to buy a round-trip Point-to-point ticket for a different trip. But as soon as I press “Buy”, a red box appears with this message -

“ X - Unfortunately, an error has occurred. ”

There is no further explanation. The trip is from Spiez to Eigergletscher via Grindelwald Terminal at 8:34am on 9 June, 2024. We want to take our return trip through Lauterbrunnen, as you suggested. I’ve tried booking this on different computers and for different dates, but all I get is that same error message. Is there a glitch in the sbb system, or is there some other reason why I can’t buy these tickets?

I appreciate the way you’ve responded to all my questions.

The website finally corrected itself and we were able to buy our round trip point to point tickets and took the whole trip. It was great! We have had some flub-ups with the super saver tickets, but the conductors were all very understanding and looked the other way a couple times on other trips when we were on the wrong trains.
