I made a test with a ticket Campocolgno -Tirano - Tresenda-Aprica-Teglio with GA in Switzerland and ORDINARIA in Italy. As mentioned earlier, the check-in is not necessary for Arcobaleno Transfrontaliero tickets from Tessin, but they are valid only 4 hours,

It is compulsory to check in before travelling on Italian regional trains. Please check in on the day of travel between midnight and the scheduled departure time of your regional train. You can find the check-in link under ‘Your tickets’.

CHECK IN IS MANDATORY
If you are unable to check in, you may request that the Train Staff complete the check-in free of charge upon boarding. Failure to notify the staff at the time of boarding entails the application of a penalty of 5 euro due to the Train Staff. If this amount is not paid on board the train, the penalty provided for non-validation by the regulations in force at the location where the infringement is detected is applied or, where not specifically provided for, the payment of the amount provided for in Section 7 - Irregularities and infringements of the General Conditions of Transport Part III - Regional Transport.
