I plan to travel from Lucerne to Milan next week. I looked at the sbb website but cannot find a direct train. I read that there is a direct train. Where can I book it?
Also when booking Lucerne to Milan how do I use the Swiss travel pass to get discount on the Switzerland side of the travel.
Do we need seat reservation on any part of the Lucerne to Milan trip?

Since December 2023 there are no more direct trains between Lucerne and Italy. You must travel via Zug or Arth Goldau to catch a train to Italy.

You can purchase a ticket from Lucerne to Milan from SBB or Trenitalia. For the reduction, choose ‘GA Travel Card’. Yes, if you take the Eurocity train, you need seat reservations for the Italian part of the journey.

Shuesawhau82 You can also take an IC21 train to Lugano and a RE80 train from Lugano to Milano Centrale. You have a connection every two hours.

No seat reservations are required in IC21/RE80, it is only recommended in the peak times (for example at the beginning and the end of weekends/holidays). You can use your Swiss Travel Pass until Chiasso.

If you take a regional train RE80, you should buy an Arcobaleno Transfrontaliero ticket on sbb.ch or in SBB Mobile app only from Chiasso to Milan. It is not necessary to buy this ticket in advance, please note that it is valid 4 hours.
