Seat Reservation for Under 6

I am trying to reserve seats on sbb.ch, but when I add our daughter (who is under 6), the option to make a seat reservation disappears - is this a bug with the website, or am I doing something incorrect? If I ‘adjust’ her age to over 6 then the option to reserve appears…

I see that I can make reservations with the app, but the app doesn’t appear to have the functionality to select the type of carriage you wish to book (e.g. family compartment).

Children under 6 travel for free on Swiss trains, but are not entitled to a seat. So if there are no free seats available they may have to sit on your lap. In order to reserve a seat you need to indeed pretend the child is over 6. Seat reservations are the same price for everyone, regardless of age, so it is not that important.
But for trains within Switzerland seat reservations are not needed. If you want to travel in the family carriage just look for it at the station, and just board it, and find yourself a seat…

Thank you - I was eventually able to reserve a seat for her on the website with her correct age - it appears there was a bug with the site when they were updating it at the time.

Please note that family zone coaches (some of them equipped with a small playground, see => here) are only available on IC (InterCity) or EC trains. But you can’t reserve the slide. 😉

Family coaches are not available on IR, RE, R or S trains.

Thank you - we took two IC trains today with family coaches on both - she really enjoyed the opportunity to play while we made our journey.
