Flooding/Bus situation in August from Visp to Zermatt

Hello,

We are traveling by train from Vevey to Zermatt via Visp on August 12. What is the flooding situation now? Is it possible (if no more flooding) for the train to run by the time we’re there?

If bus is inevitable, what is the current delay time for people bus from Visp to Tasch, so we may prepare?

Thiengairrue73 Hello.

The line will not reopen until mid-August, the date is currently not known. You will arrive in Zermatt about 30 minutes later. The online timetable is adapted but only the day of departure. Replacement buses are designated as EV on an orange rectangle.

Danhiel Thank you! Let me understand correctly, that the bus will take about 30 minutes longer than usual, correct?

At Visp, is there a sign to show us how to get to the bus stop? If I understand your saying correctly, the bus that runs between Visp to Tasch has an orange rectangle on it?

Finally, from Tasch to Zermatt, there are still trains running to Zermatt station, correct?

Thiengairrue73 To give you an example, a replacement service has today 1 hour and 10 minutes from Visp to Zermatt, the train has normally 1 hour and 6 minutes. The connection time in Täsch from the bus to the train is only two minutes, it seems me not very realistic if you have 50 or 100 people with luggage who change, it is better to plan 1 hour and 30 minutes.

You have frequent trains between Täsch and Zermatt, because people travelling by car must also take the train. Cars are not allowed in the city of Zermatt.

The orange rectangle is in the timetable, but probably also on special signs in the station of Visp. You will certainly find staff to help you to find the right bus.

You’re overthinking the situation: Dozens of other fellow travellers leaving the train in Visp with suitcases etc. will also head to Zermatt, and many of them would not even know about the replacement buses. The bus terminal is just outside of the (modern dark glass) Visp SBB station building.
So just follow the signs with a bus symbol (and/or the majority of other passengers with suitcases leaving the train station area), and you will most certainly bump into some bus labeled with something remotely looking like “Zermatt”.
