Saver Day Pass question regarding validity

Hi all,
I have a holiday coming up to Zermatt in august with my 14 year old daughter (arrving in Zurich) and I am hoping someone can help clarify a few questions I have. I was looking at the SBB website and I think the saver day pass is the right option for us. We don’t have a travel card so on the SBB app I selected “No Travelcard” when searching for the trains. The point to point tickets in 1st class are CHF262, however a saver day pass and day pass children is CHF121 (88 adult, 33 child) so this would be the correct ticket to purchase? If I understand correctly, we just need to show the saver day passes and a form of ID such as our passports to the ticket inspectors on the train?

We are landing at Zurich airport on the 19th August at 11:35am. I know we need to collect luggage and clear immigration so I have figured 1 hour should be enough time for this. The first available train from Zurich airport is at 12:45pm, arriving at Zermatt at 16:15pm with a couple of changes. If it takes us longer to clear immigration/luggage, do the day saver passes allow us to board any available train going to Zermatt on the day? The next available train would be at 13:45pm so if the day saver passes allow us to use that if we are delayed then that is perfect.

I don’t want to purchase the tickets and then have to pay for another pair of ticket if there are any delays at the airport so I just wanted some clarification before purchasing.

Yes, you are right, you can use the Saver Day Passes as you described, they are valid in every train until the following day at 5 am.

Please note that they are not exchangeable and not refundable. It is better to have a good travel insurance when you buy such tickets.

Yes, you’ve selected the correct options when looking up the connections as the prices you mentioned look correct as per today. As the name already suggests, the Saver Day Pass is valid all day past midnight on any regular (not purely touristic) public transport vehicle.

Note that the prices for Saver Day Passes will increase the closer the travel date is approaching, or they might eventually sell out. So depending on the SDP price development over the next weeks, another ticket category named Supersaver Ticket might also appear in the ticket selection for your itinerary. Stay away from those in case they’d pop up (even if the deal looks tempting) as those are actually bound to a specific train, therefore not a good idea after an incoming flight which could be delayed.

What are your plans in Zermatt and afterwards? If you plan on doing mountain excursions you may want to get the Half Fare Card. That gives 50% off for the adult, and free travel for the child, also on mountain excursions. And with that the Saver Day Pass becomes cheaper as well.

@Krist We won’t be doing any mountain excursions as my daughter gets fatigued quite easily so we will be staying around the Zermatt area and just heading to places within walking distance 🙂
