Half fare card vs Zermatt One Month Peak Pass

I’m going to purchase the half fare card and the one-month peak pass, but I will use the half fare card for about seven days in other parts of Switzerland before I start the use of my one-month peak pass in Zermatt. Therefore, my half fare card will run out after about three weeks in Zermatt. Am I correct in assuming that because I purchased the peak pass while the half fare card was still good, I will be fine with the last week of the Peak Pass?

You are referring to the use of the Swiss Half Fare Card (do not get confused by the Half Fare Card for residents).

Nope. The (Swiss) Half Fare Card validity must cover the entire validity of your peak pass, too. It is not sufficient that it was still valid on the day when you purchase had purchased the pass; alike with train tickets.

Furthermore, you cannot purchase reduced tickets online, you can only get them on-site in Zermatt at the base stations of the cable car or gondolas operator.

RolandP So the remainder of the Peak Pass will just be worthless? That seems odd.
