Swiss Travel Pass Flex - change start date after purchase?

I am buying a Swiss Travel Pass Flex for my upcoming trip, and I see that I have to note the first date I will use it at purchase time. However, I haven’t definitely decided on my travel schedule, so don’t know when this date will be. Can I put a date down and then update it (before the date) as my schedule solidifies? Many thanks.

No, this is not possible. You wold have to cancel the pass and repurchase. The cancellation fee per request is CHF 10.

When buying the Swiss Travel Pass Flex you could actually define the time period in which you want to use the travel days; each travel day is to be activated latest before use. That’s the flexibility the STP Flex offers, yet it is very costly.

I, personally, would not purchase a Swiss Travel Pass Flex, especially if I needed it for less than 15 travel days; it is simply too costly.

You are better off purchasing the Swiss Half Fare Card for 1 month, plus Saver Day Passes, or individual tickets, especially if you are unsure about your travel plans. Simply do the maths and double-check whether you would indeed be spending the daily rate of a Swiss Travel Pass Flex day compared when purchasing individual tickets.

Ok, wow, you have added a layer of complexity to my decision 🙂. The 6 day STP Flex actually doesn’t ultimately pencil out for me - I have five days where my intended activities equal or exceed the per day cost of that pass; if I move down to a 4 day pass, the per day cost is higher and I have only two days where my activities would equal or exceed the pass cost. Those two days would involve the Gottherd Panorama train and the Montreux-Lucerne Golden Line trip; would your suggestion about a Half Fare Card and Saver Day Passes apply to these? And thank you very much for your time in helping me through this; I’ve been on the SBB website so many times that my mind is spinning!!!
