Restriction on ticket purchases

I’m trying to buy six Super Saver tickets to travel from Basel to our holiday destination but always get the following message after I click to purchase:

Restriction on ticket purchases. Due to technical problems, it is currently not possible to purchase tickets. Please try again later.

I’ve tried this a few times now over the past month with no success. I’m in the UK, will pay on a UK credit card, and the date I’m trying to book is 28 August (it is currently 29 July). I’ve successfully purchased half fare cards with the same details.

Please can someone advise what to do?

It is difficult to help you if we not know your holiday destination and the departure time of travel. Could you give us these informations?

If you arrive the same day in Basel with a flight, it is not recommended to buy Supersaver Tickets, Saver Day Passes could be better.

Via Interlaken Ost, Lauterbrunnen
We. 28.08.2024
Departure: 11:28
Arrival: 14:12

We’ve done the trip a few times and have given ourselves two hours to get to the station.

Everything looks normal for your connection from my perspective as a SBB customer like you. If there was a general problem for days with online ticket sales, that would have caused bigger headlines in the local media than the Olympics. 😁

So before calling the SBB Contact Center for further support, you might want to try the following first:

Set your system time to “automatic” and try again
Use a different browser, in order to exclude any browser cache or cookies related issues
Try temporarily setting your timezone to CET

Thanks - changing the time zone worked!
I also tried different browsers and all caps, but neither made a difference.
Thanks for sorting this - might be handy if that can be added to the error message as I expect it will affect others too.

I think this timezone issue affecting at least the UK is something worth a closer look (in case you haven’t seen it yet)

Note that if you are going from Basel Airport to Wengen you should buy a ticket form the Airport to Wengen, not from Basel SBB.
