How to purchase discounted tickets with Swiss Travel Pass online on in SBB app?

Hello,

I know that trains and buses are typically fully covered by the Swiss Travel Pass and some routes are only discounted. How do I purchase those discounted tickets with the Swiss Travel Pass online?

On the SBB app I do not find any option to add this pass, I can add only Half Fare Travelcard, GA Travelcard 1st/2nd class and various regional Travelcards.

Online, on sites or forums I can only find infos like “You can purchase the discounted tickets online or directly from the ticket counter. Please present your pass to make sure you’ll get the discount.”. But how do I “present” the pass when purchasing tickets in SBB app.

I have to purchase the discounted tickets at the tickets counter?

You never “present” the pass while buying discounted tickets, because it is not checked (so you could e.g. already buy a discounted saver day pass before getting the pass months before the travel date). Simply buy the tickets with some half fare option, so the lower ticket price will be calculated.
The only time you’ll “present” your pass (together with the ticket) is in the train during a ticket control. Then the pass will be the proof/evidence that you are entitled to travel with a discounted ticket instead of full fare.

For routes not fully covered by the Swiss Travel Pass (STP) you usually have to pay 50 % of a regular ticket. On routes in the Jungfrau area, the STP grants a 25 % reduction only. On routes where the Swiss Travel Pass is not accepted at all, you have to pay for full fare tickets.

See the STP’s validity map to find out which routes are fully or partially covered by the STP.

Using the SBB Mobile app, you can declare the GA Travel Card, which is, what concerns the travel card, the resident’s equivalent of the tourist’s Swiss Travel Pass.

Tickets with a 25 % reduction you cannot purchase through the SBB Mobile app. Instead use the operator’s website, or purchase it from the ticket window on-site.

You must carry your physical passport or Identity card whenever you use the Swiss Travel Pass. Photos on smartphones or photo copies are not accepted.
