Cannot register, cannot get chat to work

I want to buy a Half Fare pass for my upcoming trip to Switzerland from the U.S. I created a login with SwissPass. It then asked me if I have a Customer Number, but I do not. It asked me to Register, and then asked me to do an Identity Check. Then it asked me to put in my mobile number for the Identity Check. When I did, it said that some problem had occurred and that I should try later. I looked on the website for the Chat function to get help, but the chat button was faded out (compared to the red buttons for other choices), and when I tried to click it nothing happens. So I am at a dead end. How can I get in touch with someone at SBB who can sell me the Half Fare Pass, and sell one to my wife as well?

You have to understand two things:

there is the Half Fare Card for residents, which comes on a red plastic card and the sign up needs a verfication through a text message.
there is the Swiss Half Fare Card, that is sort of an e-ticket (alternatively as a paper copy) that entitles tourists to purchase half fare tickets, no verification is needed.

Consequently, you are about to sign up for the wrong product (resident instead of tourist).
