Hi
I’ll be travelling to Switzerland and Italy. May I please know what all is covered(Free or Discounted) in Switzerland on the Pass?
Further, I’m thinking to use mix of Saver day pass when in Switzerland(3 days) and Euro rail pass for travel to Italy and for the rest of the journey(6 days). Any recommendations.

Sorry, I disagree. It is very simple to buy reservations for long-distance trains in Italy for an Interrail/Eurail Pass, it is not more complicated as to buy tickets.

An Interrail/Eurail Country Pass is better as an Trenitalia Pass.

But, for Switzerland, Saver Day Passes or Swiss Travel Passes are better as Eurail Passes.

Harshit Hi I will be travelling 24th from London to Zurich and have a train onwards to interlaken .
Please advice my return date is 29th.Is Swiss pass good option for travel on public transport?

An Eurail Pass is nog good value for what you have in mind. It is complicated to use in Italy, as you still need reservations for long distance trains, and these can be complicated to get.

Better option for you is to get Saver Day Passes for your Swiss days, and just book tickets for your trip to Italy.

Danhiel last year my Sister was traveling through Italy with an Eurail Pass. She could not reserve the EC from Milano to Spiez anywhere. So I suggested she try at a station in Italy. There they could not help here either.

In the end she bought a Family ticket for Milano - Domodossola, and continued on the Eurail Pass from there. The ticket was anyway cheaper than the Eurail Reservations would have been.

Can you please point out to me where you can easily get Eurail Reservations for Italy? As I, who is not entirely helpless where it comes to trains, could not figure it out.

You can reserve seats on eurail.com, with a fee of 2 €, I don’t know if it works if you don’t buy the pass on the same site.

You can also reserve seats on raileurope.com, currently without any fee. You must give your pass number, but it is not necessary that the pass is already activated. On this site you can also choose seats with a surcharge of 2 €.

Refunds are also possible online according the conditions of Trenitalia (with a fee and only tickets above 10 €). Eurail doesn’t refunds the 2 € fee.

You can import the reservations in the Trenitalia app to make exchanges. After an exchange, the tickets are no more refundable,

To be honest, I always reserved my seats from and to Domodossola, never from Spiez, because I have a GA.

In the particular case of my Sisters’ Italy trip we did try all the usual avenues, and even just tried reserving to Domodossola. Nothing would work. And then at the station the station clerk just throw his hands in the air and told them that it was impossible.

In the end a Family ticket Milano - Domodossola for 2 adults and 3 children was cheaper than 5 reservations would have been…

It is always possible to compare the price of normal tickets, of discounted tickets or of Eurail Passes with mandatory reservations. It depends also of the length of the trip.

I wanted only to say that it is possible to reserve seats. Not everyone travels wirh a family.

aamasoodi Swiss Pass is the convienent way to travel in Switzerland as it cover almost all the trains, trams,boats, Gondolas, funicular and offer discount at excursion as well.
