The details in the purchased tickets differ from my destinations

I bought train tickets Basel - Como (Italy) with a transfer in Lugano. As a result, I received 2 tickets Basel - Chiasso and Chiasso - Como. I don’t know what to do? Do I need to make a transfer in Chiasso or can I safely travel on the Basel-Lugano-Como route with the purchased tickets? Thank you

Chiasso is the Italy/Switzerland border station, and your RE train stops there anyway. Your tickets are split probably for whatever legal and/or tax related reasons.

So if you want, in Chiasso you could step out of the train, remain 2 seconds on the platform, and then return back your seat.
Just kidding… simply remain seated in Chiasso 😉

The change of trains happens at Lugano.
Simoly continue by RE80, your Swiss ticket continues to cover the journey to Chiasso.

Your Swiss ticket does not include VAT, therefore it must be issued to Chiasso, as it is only valid with a ticket for Italy.

Tickets are for a route, not a train. You do not have train tickets. There is no such thing as a train ticket…

You have a ticket for the route Basel-Chiasso, and a separate one for the route Chiasso-Milano. This is done like this because the tariff systems are different between Switzerland and Italy. It is an unfortunate inconvenience.

Given that you have tickets covering the whole route that you plan to take you can travel. Just take the trains you intended to, and show your tickets to the conductor when he passes.

Split tickets are never an issue if the train actually stops at that “split location”.

Splitting tickets is perfectly fine also within Switzerland, e.g. for cost reasons:
If the departure or destination point is in a fare network, and a longer distance is traveled within it, splitting tickets before that fare network border may be cheaper (due to discounts on the number of covered zones, or zones for free) than the single overall point-to-point ticket suggested by the ticket shop/app with its price calculated solely on the covered distance.
But again, the train or bus MUST stop at this “split border station”, never ever attempt such tricks on a non-stop leg such as Bern - Zurich!
