Missing transfer

Hi. Soon I’m gonna take the night train from Amsterdam to Zurich. It will arrive at 9am at Zurich HB. Then I want to take a train to Milan, around 10am.
I’ve heard the night train is often delayed. Can someone tell me if I miss the transfer; can I use the tickets for the train from 10am to Milan, also for a train which will depart for instance at 11am?
In the Netherlands, we don’t have train tickets with a specific time. Therefore I don’t know how this works in Swiss…

You could take the next train, but ask at the ticket office for a confirmation of the delay and a new reservation for the Eurocity Zürich - Milan. In these trains, the reservations are mandatory from Chiasso to Milan.

You refer to the Eurocity trains. Is this also true for other companies like SBB?

The Eurocity is operated by SBB to Chiasso, and from there by Trenitalia to Milan. In case of a delay, the ticket is accepted by both SBB and Trenitalia. But as @Danhiel said, you need a new reservation for the later Eurocity.

NielsDB If you have a ticket for an Eurocity, it were not accepted on regional trains of Trenord between the border station of Chiasso and Milano. If a change in Lugano to a regional train were necessary with the next available connection (IC2/RE80 for example), it were possible to buy a ticket from Chiasso to Milano at the ticket office, on sbb.ch or with the SBB Mobile app for 6 CHF (Arcobaleno Transfrontaliera Ticket).
