Help purchasing Mt. Pilatus Leisure Day discount tickets

Hello! I am trying to purchase tickets to visit Mt. Pilatus using the Leisure & Holiday offers, but I am having trouble with the website. I will be visiting Lucerne for 2 days in September. I am trying to purchase “Option 3” which is “Kriens-Pilatus-Alpnachstad”, but when I get to the part that says “configure your journey” it will not allow me to select the same date of the excursion. The website also will not allow me to just skip this step. I’m wondering if the ticket I select will be valid for the next day or if there is a way to correct this issue, and buy the connecting train for the same day as my excursion. Any help would be appreciated!

The website is also asking if I need a train ticket for my return journey. Is this referring to the ticket from Alpnachstad back to Luzern train station? I just want to make sure because my understanding is that this package includes the gondola from Kriens to the top of Pilatus, and the return cogwheel train down to Alpnachstad. Thank you!

These leisure offers are intended only for day excursions, unless it is mentioned in the description and an accommodation is included.

It is not recommended to buy mountain excursions in advance, the weather could be bad. As indicated in the previous post, you can buy the tickets at the station.

To answer your question, yes option 3 is valid for travel from Kriens up to Pilatus and down to Alpnachstad. It is not necessary to buy ticket from Alpnachstad to Lucerne in advance. You will find a ticketmachin at the Raiway Station Alpnachstad or Travelcenter of Zentralbahn.

The easiest way out of this issue is to just wait till you are in Luzern, and just buy the ticket at the station there. Then you can talk to a person, and they will explain the different options, and sell you the right ticket.
Buying this in advance is not needed.

Thank you for the replies! Will I still be able to get the Leisure deal price if I wait to purchase at the ticket office on the day of the excursion? Or is the leisure deal price only for purchases made in advance? The price seems cheaper than most other options I’ve seen at CHF 62.40.

Selected RailAway offers are also available directly from staffed ticket counters. Here you can get your ticket for public transport and the ticket for your leisure activity. Even if you already have a public transport ticket or travelcard, you can still easily purchase the discounted leisure activity on its own.

I don’t know what is a “selected” offer.

The only deals which are cheaper when bought in advance contain the term “saver” in their name. They’re available in limited quantities for a specific price.

Everything else is always the same price, also regardless of the sales channel (online, staffed counter, vending machines), and are always available in unlimited quantities. And that’s why it makes absolutely no sense to “secure” a regular ticket days or even weeks in advance, before you know for sure that you’ll actually make the trip in question. E.g. you don’t feel ill that day and the weather will be fine.

I disagree for the leisure offers of RailAway. It is really possible to buy a discounted ticket for the Pilatus on the day of travel. An example for today from Luzern with the bus to Kriens and the train from Alpnachstad:

I have checked the same itinerary you did for 3 different dates - today, tomorrow and next Sunday: The price is always exactly the same, 75.00 instead of 90.60… unless you select a Supersaver Passepartout ticket on a future date, which even saves a few bucks.

So that discount is the regular RailAway aka Leisure discount, not some “today’s special” 😉
