Hello Weaphoadie77
Welcome to the SBB Community.
We are a customer support forum run by volunteers. A quick hello is always appreciated.
The conductor was probably not unfriendly yet simply enforcing the rules. With a 2nd class ticket you are at no time allowed to be sitting/standing in 1st class coaches, also not on platforms. They are reserved to 1st class passengers only. Platforms must be kept free to allow 1st class passengers an easy boarding / deboarding - they do pay for this extra service.
The only places where you are allowed to stand on platforms is on 2nd class or mixed 1st / 2nd class coaches. This rule has been in place since trains existed and is also clearly communicated on the train. See attached the rules of conduct that you can find on each train coaches’ platform.
It is furthermore mentioned in the national tariff T600, too.
I guess the train conductor was still gentle as he could have asked a surcharge of CHF 70 from you for not possessing a 1st class ticket.
Kind regards,
Roland
